-Covert Park and Campgrounds
From the deep woods to the beach
Discover this beautiful park for the first
time, or if you have been here before, discover it again. One of the
best-kept secrets of the lakeshore,
Covert Park is now managed by a young couple, Karen and Rowdy, who have
redeveloped this run-down township park into a deep woods haven for camping
and picnicking with a beautiful beach at the end of the trail. The view
as you emerge from the woods onto the beach is spectacular. Picnic tables
and grills line the wooded pathway to the beach for day users, and a
large campground nestled in the dunes is available for vacationers. There
is plenty of parking, a pavilion and a bath house. New this year is an
outdoor shower to wash off sandy little bodies.
Covert Park has a ¼ mile of sandy beach front nestled between
quiet neighborhoods so the beach is rarely crowded. Even on busy days
you will always be able to find a quiet spot. Come with your children
to enjoy a day at the beach, or bring your whole family for a relaxing
weekend away from city hustle and bustle. Beach strollers can walk about
one mile to the power plant to the north all the way to St. Joseph and
beyond to the south.
Covert Park is located off of I-196 at Exit 13 (Covert). At the bottom
of the ramp take a left, cross under the interstate. Pass through the
first stop sign and continue straight until you reach Covert Park.
Other Details: The park is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Day passes
are $6. Visit the park’s website www.covertpark.com.
