Lo-do Company, Where Everyone Knows Your Name

Chasing the story about an often discussed (yet still relatively unknown) Portage treasure, Lo-Do Company, brought me to the south side of town one recent Friday afternoon for happy hour martinis and dinner.

Lined up among other store fronts in the Portage Center Plaza on the busy intersection of Centre Avenue and Westnedge Ave, Lo-do can be easily over-looked. However, once one ventures inside this hip after work hang-out, it is never forgotten.

The word on the street is Lo-do is the place to eat, drink and be merry after work, on the weekend, for lunch or for dinner.

After only six years in business, local Portage residents have embraced this establishment as their own, and the staff is pleased that they have.

Come one, come all
Lo-do General Manager Sarah Aris explained to me, “Pfizer employees, city employees and folks working at the court house are among our most loyal regulars. As a way of giving back to those who love hanging out with us, we sponsor the Pfizer employee soccer team. They eat and socialize here after games.”

With its easy access to most any Portage business and its proximity to the Westnedge Avenue shopping district, it’s no wonder why so many make a stop at Lo-do a routine occurrence.

The clientele identifies itself with all social and professional backgrounds. The staff told me that folks come in business attire, evening wear, service uniforms and regular, everyday clothing. “Everyone feels comfortable at Lo-do, regardless of the clothes they are wearing,” said manager Ryan Roemensky.

He further explained that the restaurant can accommodate lots of different needs for multiple customers all at the same time. Some of these unique attributes include (but of course, are not limited to): fast lunch turnover, large tables for business meetings, wireless Internet connectivity, and superior staff dedicated to customer service.

This ongoing, steady customer loyalty was evident to me as I listened in on conversations and questioned customers just arriving at the end of their work-day. “We are known for our exceptional service, great food and total value for our customer’s dollar,” Ms. Aris said.
