Battle Creek Area Habitat for Humanity- 2008 Invitational Golf Marathon
On Monday, May 14, 2007, “Friends of Habitat” will set their alarms for 5:00 AM. Just like they have for the last six years, they will load their golf clubs into their cars and arrive at he Riverside Country Club in Battle Creek, MI for the 7th Annual- 2008 Habitat Golf Marathon. This event has raised over $300,000.00 since the first 100-Hole Habitat Golf Marathon in 2000 -- helping to “Eliminate Sub-Standard Housing” in Battle Creek and Calhoun County, Michigan.
Supporters for Habitat for Humanity will begin in April, asking their closest friends, relatives and peers to match their $1.00/hole pledge as they attempt to play 100 holes of golf in one day! Art Pearce, Habitat Director said “There are many golf tournaments in the Battle Creek area each year. However the Habitat for Humanity Golf Marathon is a unique golfing event in the way it is played.” Linda Mueller, Riverside Country Club- President of the Board added, “We are proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity in the 7th annual event of the Habitat Golf Marathon. We not only believe in their mission of Affordable Housing, but also look forward to Habitat completing their 100th home build this year.”
Here is how it works:
>Golfers can raise money and enjoy an exciting day of golf
>Supporters can commit to donating on behalf of the golfers
>Corporate supporters can sponsor holes or provide prizes and or food
“Last year Habitat offered a new twist to the event” commented Lynn Schmoll, Habitat- President of the Board. This new twist helped to raise money not only for Habitat for Humani ty but also for other youth organizations and non-profits. A local Kiwanis Club, radio station, Lutheran Church, and non-profit received resources for their organizations. One of these organizations successfully raised over $8000.00. “Battle Creek Area Habitat for Humanity would like to share this potential $100,000 event with other organizations looking for an established, successful, fund raising event,” added Bruce Woerner, Habitat- Associate Director.
Golfers enjoy not only a wonderful day of golf, but also a continental breakfast, cookout style lunch and a delicious buffet style dinner. “Not only are they fed well, but also every golfer, with a minimum of $500.00 in pledges receives a wonderful “Players Package” of merchandise and premium gifts.
